Pre-Admission Surgical Instructions:
- Do NOT eat or drink anything after midnight, unless instructed by Physician otherwise.
- Do NOT chew gum, eat hard candy or smoke the morning of surgery.
- As a general rule, Always follow your physicians instructions first.
- If you normally take heart or blood pressure medicine in the morning, TAKE them with a sip of water the day of your procedure.
- Do NOT take diuretics that cause you to go to the bathroom frequently.
- You may shower, shampoo your hair and brush your teeth. Please do not wear cosmetics, eye make up, lotions, fragrances, jewelry or valuables of any type. If you are having surgery on your foot, please remove any nail polish from these areas. Please leave your valuables at home and remove any and all body piercing prior to your arrival to our facility. Bring only your insurance card and a photo ID. If you are a contact lens wearer, you may be asked to remove them prior to your procedure, so please bring your solution, storage case, and your glasses with you.
- It is imperative that you have a ride home. You may not go home in a cab or on public transportation. You should not drive after sedation. A parent or legal guardian must remain in the facility at all times when children under the age of 18 are undergoing procedures at this facility.
- Plan to arrive at the center at the time you were given during your pre-op phone call. If you missed her call or need to reach this person, please call 773-752-6340 and ask for our pre-op specialist between the hours of 8am to 5pm Monday-Friday.
- Bring any papers you may have received from the Doctors Office, your informed consent, copies of living will, Power of Attorney, Guardianship paperwork, Advanced Directives (*This form must be signed and dated prior to your procedure date) *your insurnace card, and a photo ID. If you have reading glasses, bring them with you.
- The surgery schedule can have changes in the start times up to the afternoon before your surgery. It is imperative that you give us a phone number where you can be reached the afternoon before your surgery. Please check you messages the evening before your surgery for any changes to your arrival time. Please rely on the time that the pre-op screening specialist gave for your arrival; the schedule may change over what the doctor had given you when initially scheduling your procedure.
Recovery and Discharge
- A nurse will review your discharge instructions with you and your "responsible"person. Our staff will also review general post surgical instructions provided by the Hyde Park Surgery Center, as well as any instructional forms from your surgeon.
- It is helpful to have your caregiver at the Hyde Park Surgery Center so they can learn how to care for you at home.
- Before you leave Hyde Park Surgery Center, you will be awake enough to go home, but plan to continue resting. You are going home to finish recovery.
- A nurse will call you at home to see how you are feeling and to answer any questions you may have.
- Your doctor will schedule a follow-up appointment with you, if you do not have one, please call your doctor's office and schedule one.
